Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find a list of the questions the team at Big Hug are asked the most. If you cannot find the answer to your enquiry please get in touch.

Who Are Big Hug Music Group?

Big Hug Music Group is a forward-thinking sync agency founded by Jeff Powell. With over twenty-five years of experience across the music industry, Jeff began as a hip hop DJ, record shop owner, and label owner, before moving into artist management and national radio plugging. He is a member of the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) and the MMF (Music Managers Forum).

Each week, more than 1.3 million tracks are released globally. AI, automation, and sheer volume have made it increasingly difficult for independent artists to be discovered through traditional channels. Streaming platforms rely heavily on algorithms, while meaningful editorial opportunities are limited.

Sync operates differently. Music supervisors are not driven by algorithms, follower counts, or viral moments. Their only priority is finding the right song for the scene. This is where Big Hug Music Group creates real opportunity.

Big Hug has secured over 80 global placements for it’s own artists, including the trailer for Ricky Gervais’ After Life Series 3, Nokia global campaigns, Netflix’s Purple Hearts, Good Trouble, Ordinary Joe, and over 30 placements across Love Island UK and USA. Big Hug is now opening it’s sync representation to new artists, pitching directly to our global network of over 1100 music supervisors in TV, Films , Games and Advertising.

Who Can Submit Their Music?
Anyone. We welcome self-releasing and independent artists, established artists, small labels, management companies, boutique publishers, and catalogue owners. Great music can come from anywhere. What matters is the strength of the song.
Do I Need a Manager, Label or Industry Contacts?
No. You do not need a manager, label, publisher, or any existing industry relationships. Big Hug exists to discover and represent great music based on its quality alone.
Do Streaming Numbers, Followers or Social Media Matter?
No. We take no notice of monthly listeners, follower counts, social media presence, streams, or views. None of this influences our decisions. Music supervisors license songs based on emotional fit, not statistics. We listen for the music, not the metrics.
What Kind of Music Are You Looking For?
Human created music across all styles and tempos. We listen for authenticity, emotional impact, originality, strong vocals, excellent production, memorable hooks, and clear themes and moods. Your track can be home produced, acoustic, stripped back, or fully studio recorded. If the song connects emotionally, it has potential for sync.
What Genres Do You Accept?
All genres. Sync opportunities exist across every musical style, and we listen to every submission with an open mind.
Can I Submit Unreleased, Released, or Older Music?
Yes. We accept unreleased tracks, current releases, and catalogue from any era. Music supervisors are looking for the right song, regardless of when it was created.
Do You Accept Cover Versions?
Yes. We are particularly interested in creative reinterpretations of well-known songs. You must own the master recording. If a sync opportunity arises, the composition clearance is managed as part of the licensing process.
How Does The Submission Process Work?

Complete the form fields, upload your track, pay the submission fee, and submit. Every submission is personally reviewed by Jeff, the Big Hug A&R team, or our guest Music Supervisor Editor. No artificial intelligence or automated systems are involved.

We aim to respond within 4-6 weeks. If accepted, you will receive a Sync Agency Agreement and onboarding instructions.

Why is There a Submission Fee?
Because AI generated music makes it possible to upload large volumes of tracks instantly, a completely free submission model would quickly overwhelm the review process. The one off submission fee allows your track to be professionally reviewed by Jeff, the Big Hug A&R team, or our highly experienced and respected guest Music Supervisor Editors of the month to be considered for inclusion in our highly curated sync catalogue. It supports the time, expertise, and infrastructure required to review each submission properly and maintain a high quality, carefully curated catalogue. The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance. We encourage you to submit only your strongest and most sync ready work.
